Our Training Program
Geared primarily towards the 1st time ultramarathon runner, the
Training Program involves long training runs on the wooded trails of Northern Virginia
every 2 to 3 weeks.
If you complete training for a fall marathon, then you will
be trained for a fall ultramarathon, such as the JFK 50 Miler, as well. The vast
majority of our runners in 1997 were first-time ultramarathoners who had trained for the
Marine Corps Marathon in October.

There is no cost or obligation if you participate in the Training
Program. We do this out of good will and a love for the sport!
Currently, however, our entire Training Program Team belongs to the
Reston Runners Club, where we all have met each other. If you run regularly with us
on club runs, then expect to be approached about paying club dues.

If you do decide to join the Reston Runners, than you can expect
the following additional benefits from the Training Program:
Reston Runners JFK 50 Singlet
Representation at Pre-Event and Post-Event Parties

The Reston Runners Club provides a very effective Marine Corps Marathon
training program to club members. Our Ultramarathon Training Program builds on this
RRC marathon training program to prepare for the JFK 50 Miler.
We also train for the Bull
Run Run 50-Miler held in the spring.

Whether they actually ran in one of these ultras or not, many of our
training participants PRed in other events during the training season. We would like
to think that this was a result of the base established during the ultramarathon training.
In 1996 we had 6 participants in the JFK 50 with 7 finishers.
In 1997 we had 22 participants, with 21 finishers.
In 1998, well, we'll see....
