Welcome to our Ultramarathon Training Web site!
This site provides a resource to Northern Virginia ultrarunners,
or would-like-to-be ultrarunners, looking for training partners and advice. An
ultramarathon consists of any running event over a distance greater than the standard
marathon length of 26.2 miles or 42.195 kilometers.
Our experienced endurance event athletes and ultramarathon runners also
provide an Ultramarathon Training Program. Geared primarily towards the 1st time
ultramarathon runner, the training program involves long training runs every 2 to 3 weeks.
Currently, the program prepares participants for the John F. Kennedy 50
Miler. Held in November on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the JFK 50 Miler course
starts in Boonsboro, MD, and runs along the Appalachian Trail, the C&O Canal, and
winding country roads.

NO COST and NO OBLIGATION
The Ultramarathon Training Program, provides participants with the
following:
A training schedule with running routes
Experienced ultrarunning partners
Experienced support crew for events
New friendships
New blisters
As members of the Reston Runners
Club, our training program team leverages the club training for the Marine Corps
Marathon in October as a basis for our training for the JFK 50 Miler. If you decide
to join the Reston Runners, then you will also receive a custom-designed Reston Runners
JFK 50 Singlet that the club purchases for club member participants.
Assuming that you join us to train for the JFK 50, then you will
probably finish it. During 1996 and 1997 we have had 27 club members run in the JFK
and only 1 did not finish. The person that did not finish: (1) did not train with
us; and (2) should not have run anyway with his knee injury!

Assuming you finish (within the 14-hour time limit), you will receive:
A really nice medallion
Bragging rights
More blisters
Even if you don't finish, you'll still get:
A commemorative T-shirt
A few blisters

Explore the Web site and learn more about ultramarathons.
If you're interested in the training program, then either come to a Sunday run, or contact
one of the team listed on the Contacts page.
